Application of ZigBee Long-Range Positioning in Automatic Bus Stop Announcement for Smart Public Transportation

Industrial Solutions 2025-12-18 61 views

I. Overview of the Bus Project Background

A company under China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) has undertaken a smart bus transformation project. The existing bus automatic stop announcement system primarily relies on satellite positioning to determine bus coordinates and issues announcement commands based on these coordinates. However, satellite signals are susceptible to interference from variable environmental conditions, leading to inaccurate positioning and occasional signal drift errors. This can result in weakened or lost satellite signals, causing misreports or missed reports when relying solely on satellite positioning. Our company's ZigBee positioning solution is required to enhance the accuracy and stability of tag reading, thereby compensating for the shortcomings of satellite positioning.

II. West-HN ZigBee-Based Positioning Solution

  • Install one 4G network card reader at each bus stop.
  • Install one solar-powered electronic tag on each bus.
  • While the bus is in motion, its position is tracked via satellite. When the bus approaches within approximately 100 meters of a bus stop, the card reader fixed at the stop immediately reads the signal from the tag attached to the bus and automatically reports it to the bus dispatch system via 4G.
  • The dispatch system issues commands based on the reported data to the bus announcement system for automatic stop announcements.

IV. Product Application Introduction

Active Card Reading Antenna (WE-TX20)

  • Can simultaneously detect up to 500 electronic tags, with a detection range of up to 150 meters in open areas.
  • Measures the wireless signal field strength of electronic tags to calculate the actual distance of the tags.
  • Can simultaneously call 10 tags for audible and visual alerts (applicable only to tags with audio/visual features).
  • Communicates with other devices using an RS232 asynchronous serial port, with configurable baud rates.
  • Provides open communication protocols, facilitating user integration of the antenna into their own control equipment.
  • Outdoor waterproof design; antenna feeder cable can be extended up to 50 meters (at 9600 bps).
  • Includes an antenna-to-USB evaluation board for connection to a computer, running open-source software to search for nearby tags.
  • Low-power device, with power consumption not exceeding 1 watt.
  • Easy and secure installation using 3M adhesive tape or wall mounting via gourd-shaped holes.
  • Multiple antennas working in coordination enable effective tag positioning.

Solar-Powered Electronic Tag (WE-T78)

  • Wireless transmission power of 100mW, with a transmission range of up to 300 meters in open areas.
  • Utilizes the globally open 4GHz microwave frequency band, requiring no application or fees.
  • Solar panel charging current: 60mA on sunny days, 4mA on cloudy/rainy days.
  • Tag transmits once per second, with an average current draw of less than 1mA, allowing continuous charging even on cloudy/rainy days.
  • Built-in 120mAH small battery, capable of continuous operation for 120 hours in dark environments.
  • Features low-voltage alert; after depletion, 2 hours of sunlight restores full charge.
  • Under low voltage, the tag operates in slow mode, transmitting once every 5 seconds.
  • IP67 waterproof rating, can withstand prolonged outdoor rain and short-term submersion in water.
  • Dimensions: Rectangular prism, 83mm x 58mm x 36mm.
  • Operating temperature: -40℃ to 70℃.

Full-Network 4G CAT1 DTU (WE-D541)

  • Wide voltage power supply: 9~36V.
  • Software and hardware watchdog protection.
  • Supports both RS232 and RS485 interfaces.
  • RS232 port can output 5V to power the WE-TX20.
  • Supports 4-channel Socket transparent transmission.
  • Supports empty packet data filtering; empty packets are not reported via 4G.
  • Supports TCP/UDP/HTTP/MQTT/Peer-to-Peer transmission/SMS transparent transmission.
  • Supports offline data caching.
  • Hardware reliability: Reverse connection protection, ESD level 4.
  • Supports local and remote firmware upgrades.
  • Supports AT commands via serial port, network, and SMS.
  • Reserves two IO functions, customizable as dual input, dual output, or 1 input + 1 output.
