Smart Reservoir Population Statistics and Positioning Application Based on ZigBee Positioning Technology

I. Project Background Overview

A project integrator in Chongqing undertook a smart reservoir construction project. The personnel location and headcount statistics initially relied on satellite positioning coordinates, with location information and numbers uploaded based on these coordinates. However, satellite signal positioning is inaccurate, with significant drift errors. In some mountainous areas, satellite signals can be very weak or non-existent due to various reasons, leading to false reports or failure to report when using satellite positioning. Our company's solution utilizes ZigBee-based positioning, which offers accurate card reading within a 100-meter range, to precisely locate personnel numbers and position information.

II. Current Management Pain Points

  1. The reservoir area is vast, and the number of personnel is considerable. Using satellite positioning would incur relatively high costs.
  2. In some mountainous areas, satellite signals can be very weak or non-existent due to various reasons, leading to false reports or failure to report when using satellite positioning.

III. ZigBee-Based Positioning Solution

To address the aforementioned issues of inaccurate satellite positioning signals and high costs, our company recommends the application of ZigBee positioning products. A 4G network card reader is installed on each patrol drone or patrol boat, and each individual is issued an electronic tag. In the upper-level management system, personnel are bound to tags, and patrol boats/drones are bound to the 4G network card readers. When a patrol boat or drone cruises within approximately 100 meters of each designated zone, the card reader detects the signals from the tags bound to personnel and automatically reports them to the management system via 4G. The management system confirms the personnel count and location based on the reported data and the cruise area, then pushes this information to the front-end application for display. A schematic diagram of the logic for real-time monitoring based on ZigBee is shown below:

Product Application Introduction:

  1. Issue and bind one electronic tag to each person.
  2. Install one 4G network card reader on each patrol drone or patrol boat.
  3. In the management system, bind personnel to tags, and bind patrol boats/drones to the 4G network card readers.
  4. When a patrol boat or drone cruises within approximately 100 meters of each designated zone, the card reader detects the signals from the tags bound to personnel and automatically reports them to the management system via 4G.
  5. The management system confirms the personnel count and location based on the reported data and the cruise area, then pushes this information to the front-end application for display.
