Application of ZigBee Tags in Asset Localization for Factory Enterprises

Industrial Solutions 2025-12-18 70 views

The Importance of Enterprise Asset Management

  1. Critical equipment requires supervision and inventory tracking.
  2. Loss of assets and equipment can cause significant financial damage to an enterprise.
  3. Easy location of equipment/assets improves efficiency and avoids time wasted on blind searches.
  4. Timely notifications on asset status and prompt replenishment when stock is low.

Features of Zigbee Technology

Many indoor positioning technologies can be used for asset management. For example, the commonly used RFID technology is already widely applied. However, West-HN Technology's Zigbee positioning technology, combined with acoustic and optical tags, is more suitable for asset and equipment location tracking, based on the following characteristics:

  1. Low networking cost. Chip costs have gradually dropped below $1 USD, making the entire module cost between $1.5 and $2.5. Furthermore, Zigbee technology is royalty-free, providing a solid foundation for more chip integration in the future.
  2. Low power consumption. Due to short active periods, low power consumption for data transmission/reception, and sleep modes, Zigbee products are highly energy-efficient. Some of our tags can operate for over 3 years without battery replacement.
  3. Low data rate. With a communication rate of 250 Kbps, Zigbee fully meets the data requirements of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
  4. Fast response. Zigbee products can transition from sleep to active mode in just 15ns, and node network entry is at the millisecond level, ensuring quick response and reduced power consumption.
  5. Flexible connection modes include point-to-point, broadcast, and self-organizing networks, allowing different networking methods based on application scenarios.
  6. High capacity. Using self-organizing, star, and mesh network structures, one master node can manage up to 254 sub-nodes. Master nodes can be further managed by upper-layer nodes, enabling large networks of up to 65,000 nodes.
  7. Security. Data transmission offers three levels of security settings (no security, Access Control List, and advanced AES-128 encryption standard). AES can be used to protect data and prevent attackers from impersonating legitimate devices.
  8. Short-range communication. Transmission range is 10-100 meters, extendable to over 1 kilometer with increased RF power.

Application Case Study

A listed company in China utilizes our products to manage factory items and equipment. By integrating with their ERP system and optimizing workflows, they have achieved the following functionalities:

  1. Automatic asset location tracking, enabling quick finding of assets via acoustic and optical tags.
  2. Asset tracking, monitoring the movement trajectory of assets during usage to determine their provenance and status.
  3. Geofencing alerts, notifying managers when assets leave designated areas.
  4. Tracking the time duration of asset usage.
  5. Temperature and vibration alerts for hazardous assets.
  6. Automatic tracking of material trays on production lines.
